The Billings Scarletts scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday to beat the Butte Miners 6-2 in an Eastern AA baseball game at Copper Mountain Park.

The game was the opener of a three-game series in the Mining City. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Gordon Sveinson hit a pinch-hit two-run double to start the rally in the ninth. Riley Burns followed with an RBI triple before Café Golden smacked a double. Jake Tallman added a run-scoring single.

Ax Henningsen went 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Miners eight-hit attack. Zach Hart and Dyllan “Kruk” Lane each hit two singles, and Nate LeProwse added an RBI base knock.

LeProwse scored Hart, who singled, in the first inning. Helena tied the game when Samuel Berry grounded out to score Tallman, who doubled, in the second.

Henningsen drove in Hart, after his second single, in sixth to put Butte back up 2-1. That’s where the lead stayed until the roof caved in on the Miners in the ninth.

Reese Queen and Greg Andriolo combined to fan 10 Miners. Queen started and pitched into the sixth, striking out seven. Andriolo finished the game for the win.

Quin Summers pitched into the ninth. He scattered four hits, struck out four and walked three in a solid outing for the Miners. LeProwse took the loss.
