GREAT FALLS — Montana Tech sophomore Sean Benson jumped up one spot over the final round and tied for fourth place at the Argos Invitational Tuesday at the Larchmont Country Club.
Benson, a Billings Senior graduate, followed a 75 and a 73 on Monday with a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday for a 223 total. That tied him with Rocky Mountain College’s Hunter Anderson and Carroll College’s Joseph Potkonjak.
Lewis-Clark State College’s Chris Lein, the reigning Frontier Conference champion, fired a final-round 72 for an even-par 216. He beat Colton Murphy of Rocky in a playoff to claim medalist honors.
Rocky took the team total at 895, breaking 300 for the third straight round with a 298 over the final 18 holes. LC-State took second at 903, while the Orediggers finished at 921 with a final-round 300.
The University of Great Falls placed fourth at 924, and Carroll took fifth at 296.
Butte High graduate Trey Hoagland rebounded from a rough Monday for a 1-under 71 Tuesday. He tied for 21st at 234. Teammate Jimmy Amundson shot a 76 and held steady at 12th with a 229.
Also for Tech, Butte High grad David Starcevich shot 78 and tied for 25th at 235, while Daniel Friez carded an 80 and a 253 for 37th place.
