The Butte Central Maroons are playing their best baseball at the right time of the year.

With postseason play creeping closer, BC keeps finding ways to win gritty games, and Thursday’s 4-3 victory over Florence-Carlton was another example of a team beginning to click when it matters most.

The Maroons battled through a tight contest at home and answered every challenge thrown their way. Florence-Carlton struck first in the third inning after Luke Dobberstein delivered an RBI single to put the Falcons ahead 1-0, but BC wasted little time responding.

In the bottom half of the inning, Beau McGree came through with one of the biggest swings of the game, lining a two-run single to give the Maroons a 2-1 advantage and inject life into the dugout.

BC continued to manufacture runs from there. The Maroons added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings while leaning on timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and patient at-bats. Treigh Hollow helped spark the offense with two walks and a stolen base, while Gunnar O’Brien and Trapper Stajcar each collected two hits.

O’Brien also ripped a double and created pressure all game long on the bases.

Colt Hassler turned in a gritty complete-game performance on the mound to earn the win. The right-hander scattered 10 hits across seven innings but limited the damage when it counted most. Hassler allowed just one earned run, walked two, and kept Florence-Carlton from landing the big knockout inning despite constant traffic.

That toughness continues to define this BC squad late in the season.

The Falcons threatened in the sixth with two runs to tighten the game to 4-3, but the Maroons locked things down from there and finished the job.

BC finished with six hits and drew six walks while continuing to show an ability to grind out close wins against quality competition. Cohen Stajcar added an RBI, Kaden Berger scored a run and reached safely, and the Maroons once again showed they can win games in multiple ways.

As the regular season winds down, Butte Central keeps showing up and doing big things.

And right now, the Maroons are playing like a team nobody is going to want to see in the postseason.
