The snow has barely melted, but Butte’s track athletes are already in midseason form.
Butte High senior Sam Henderson opened the season with a bang, hitting State qualifying marks in three events during Tuesday’s dual meet with Missoula Sentinel. Henderson took first in the 110-meter hurdles, high jump, and triple jump — a dominant showing to kick off his final season in purple.
He wasn’t the only Bulldog to shine.
Senior Brett Polich launched the shot put 50 feet, 1 inch to win the event and added a third-place finish in the discus. Fellow senior Brityn Stewart claimed the top spot in the javelin with a mark of 115-3 — good enough to qualify for the Class AA State meet.
Junior Camden Houchin ran to personal bests in both the 800 and 1,600, winning both races with times of 2:04.95 and 4:38.72, respectively. Cohen Andrews won the long jump at 20 feet, 1 inch.
Freshman Ava Boehmer made an early impression, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.52 seconds. Evelyn Smith (2:34.36) and Penelope Luebke (59.56) also earned wins in the 800 and 300 hurdles.
