This week, the spotlight shines bright on three local golfers who put the Mining City on notice with performances that blended cool composure with championship grit: Chase Choquette, Kate DeShaw, and Beau McGree.

Chase Choquette – Boys’ 15–17 Division (Butte High)

In a clutch sudden-death playoff, Choquette delivered the kind of finish that defines a competitor. After carding a 1-over-par 71 to tie for the top spot, he held steady under pressure—nearly driving the green on No. 1—and nailed a birdie when it counted. His opponent had to settle for par. That kind of composure with a club in hand? That says you’re built for moments like this.

Kate DeShaw – Girls’ 15–17 Division (Butte High)

DeShaw wasn’t content to just win once—she claimed her second title in three days. Her round of 83 at Highland View secured the girls’ 15–17 crown, capping a prep season that’s already off to a red-hot start. Shots fell when they needed to, and DeShaw showed why she’s the measuring stick for the fall season ahead.

Beau McGree – Boys’ Field (Butte Central)

Over at Butte Central, sophomore Beau McGree shot a solid 5-over-par 75 at Highland View to top the boys’ field and walk away with the BC Invite title. Just two strokes ahead of Gallatin’s Daniel Verrellen (77), and three ahead of his own senior teammate Will McGree (79), Beau’s steady stroke play and poise stood out in a tight, talented field.

Congratulations to Choquette, DeShaw, and McGree on being named this week’s Butte Sports Athletes of the Week!
