The Butte Central Volleyball team traveled to Stevensville Saturday for a Southwestern A match. The Maroons played their closest match of the season falling 3-2 to the Yellow Jackets.
The first game set the stage for the rest of the match with the teams going back and fourth with the lead. Late in the set the Yellow Jackets were able to get a cushion and held on for a 25-21 win.
The second game was a carbon copy f the first game but this time the Maroons flipped the out come winning by the same score as the first game 25=21.
The third showed hoe evenly matched the teams are as they played past game point for a BC victory 27-25. The Yellow Jackets re-grouped on their home court to win game four in the matches biggest margin victory at 25-19.
Tied at 2 games a piece going the fifth game was a competitive at the first four. The teams exchanged the lead but neither could find an advantage until the very end. The Yellow Jackets were able to finally get the two point separation claiming a 15-13 victory.
Coach Becky Hancock said, “We did a lot of great things today, & played tough! Just came down to taking care of the little things, & needing to emphasize in putting the ball away, to close out games. Tough loss, but will only make us stronger, as we move forward”.
Mia Keeley set 24 assists to her teammates to go along with 7 kills of her own.. Brooke Badovinac dominated at the net with 12 kills and 2 solo blocks, plus 4 ace serves.. Lucy Kelly also had a big day at the net with 7 kills and 2 solo blocks.
Ella Moodry once again showed her ability to play at the net and in the back row. She dug up 23 attempts by the Yellow Jackets. She served 11 points including one Ace and finished with 7 kills at the net.
Kaycee Anderson added 21 digs to go with Mollie Drews 14.
The loss evened the Butte Central record at 4-4 as they get set this week to host Dillon on Tuesday night. The Maroons will travel to Corvallis Saturday before returning home the 14th and 15th to hos the Blocktober Classic.
