Wolf Point stops Whitehall boys in opener

Mechiah Zilkoski scored 14 points to lead three Wolf Point players in double figures this morning as the Wolves topped Whitehall 53-46 in the opening game of the Class B State basketball tournament.

Easton Copenhaver and Patrick Laney each scored 11 points in the win for the Wolves (18-6), who advance to Friday’s semifinals.

Senior Casey McLean scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Trojans, who fell to 18-8. Bryce Murphy tossed in 11.

The Trojans head to loser-out play where they’ll try to battle back and win the third-place trophy.

The combined boys and girls tournament runs through Saturday at the Butte Civic Center. Eight games will be played each day, with Butte High’s Richardson Gym used for two Saturday-morning loser-out games.
