CALGARY, Alberta – Butte’s Bryon Wilson and his U.S. Freestyle Moguls Ski Teammates will make their third stop on the FIS Freestyle World Cup this weekend at the Canada Olympic Park, Moguls competition will take place on Saturday.
After an extended training block, both the men’s and women’s teams had solid results at last weekend’s World Cup in Val St. Come, Quebec. The men really pushed their speed and degree of difficulty, but a few small mistakes kept them off the podium. Young guns Nessa Dziemian of East Hampstead, New Hampshire, and Jaelin Kauf of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, both had strong runs and lead the charge for the U.S. women, with Dziemian posting her best World Cup finish and Kauf notching a top 20 in her first World Cup appearance. Coming into Calgary, the opportunity exists for both the World Cup veterans and newcomers to really step it up.
“Our U.S. regional programs are doing a great job of preparing our younger skiers for the World Cup,” said head mogul coach Matt Gnoza. “These athletes are arriving on the scene with the knowledge they need to do well. We like what we’re seeing from the rookies, and it’s good to keep the veterans on their toes. The inter-team competition really fuels our performance. When one of us wins, we all win.”
Qualifications for the event are Saturday at 9:20 a.m. MST. Finals will follow at 1:30 p.m. MST with a live stream available on NBC Sports Live Extra.
Wilson’s teammates on the U.S. men’s contingent are Jeremy Cota of Steamboat Springs, Troy Murphy of Bethel, Maine, Bruce Perry Jr. of Winter Park, Colorado, Tom Rowley of Long Beach, New York, and Dylan Walczk of Rochester, New York.
The Team USA women’s competition entrants are Dziemian, Ali Kariotis of Tiburon, California, Kauf, Heidi Kloser of Vail, Colorado, Mikaela Matthews of Frisco, Colorado, and Keaton McCargo of Telluride, Colorado. 1 comment
