Butte High won big Saturday afternoon, 11-1, in a non-conference bid against the Columbus Cougars. Jaxon Williamson got the start for the first time this year at 3 Legends Stadium. The big righty battled some adversity early on, allowing back-to-back singles to Koleman Gairrett and Mason Sheppard. Sheppard’s RBI single would be the first and last one for Columbus, as Williamson locked in and delivered a gem.

Williamson, a sophomore, went the distance and got the win for the Bulldogs. He only allowed 3 hits and fanned 6 through 6 innings of work. He wasn’t the only one working that day, as the Bulldog defense committed 0 errors to back him up.

The Butte High bats were hot all game too! The Dogs tallied 13 hits as a team, several of which for extra bases. Not only were the bats hot but so were their feet. The Butte High boys tacked on 6 stolen bases as well.

Ethan West started on the bump for the Cougars. The Bulldog bats attacked early to give their pitcher some run support. They jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 4 innings. The boys did most of their damage in the 5th inning. Back-to-back doubles by Will Stepan and Tocher Lee started off the bottom half of the 5th.Quinn Cox did not drive any runs in that inning, but he did make his presence at the plate felt. He continued his monstrous season at the dish going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s. Logan Carden put the cherry on top of the scoring sundae in the 5th, driving a 2-run double deep to left field.

Matthew Donaldson, Karsen McEwen, and Cayde Stajcar also contributed to the hit parade. Coach Jim LeProwse was smiling ear to ear at the end of the game after his team’s performance. He added, “I thought Jaxon did a fantastic job. A big part of it was not allowing many baserunners after giving up the early run. He did great.”

The Bulldogs will face another difficult task on the road next week. They will take on the defending state champions in Polson on Wednesday afternoon at 3. Box score attached below.
