The Gillette Wild beat the Butte Cobras 3-2 in a shootout Friday night at the Butte Community Ice Center. (Stats)
The shootout came after the teams played to a scoreless tie in one overtime period. The Frontier Division game was tied at 2 after regulation.
Butte took a 1-0 lead when Joe Erickson fed Wyatt Haakenson for a goal in the first period. Coleman Varty and Dillon Hale scored in the second period to give the Wild a 2-1 advantage.
Cobra Jordan Douglass found the back of the net for the tying goal early in the third.
Gillette outshot Butte 27-10 in the game, and Cobra goalie Karl Zodda put in a solid effort in the loss.
The two teams will play again Saturday night in Butte. The puck drops at 7:30.
