Whitlock takes top spot, Bulldogs ranked No. 5

For the first time during the 2021 regular season, a Butte High wrestler holds a No. 1 ranking.

Bulldog junior Trey Whitlock took over the top spot at 103 pounds in the latest Class AA rankings, which were released Wednesday night. The ranking comes after Whitlock beat beating a pair of ranked opponents Saturday in Butte.

Whitlock is one of eight Butte High wrestlers to receive a top-six ranking as Butte High (4-1) remained in the No. 5 sport as a team.

Kalispell Flathead holds down the No. 1 spot. Billings Senior is second, followed by Billings West. Helena Capital is No. 6.

Butte reshman Maverick McEwen (113 pounds) and sophomore Zach Tierney (285) are ranked No. 3. Keagan Gransbery (126) and Kip Pumnea (132) are ranked No. 4, and Kyler Raiha (120) and Mason Christian (182) were both ranked No. 5. Anthony Liva (152) is ranked No. 6.

The first girls’ rankings will be released on Thursday.
