Western’s Wainwright wins weekly Frontier award

Dakota Wainwright’s clutch punt block and return Saturday in La Grande, Oregon, netted the Montana Western linebacker more than a victory.

On Monday, the 5-foot-11, 245-pound senior from Palmer, Alaska, was named the Frontier Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Wainwright blocked a Mountaineer punt and returned it 36-yard for a score. The big play, which came with 2 minutes remaining, turned a 23-22 deficit into a 30-23 Bulldog win.

Dion Williams of Montana Tech, Calvin Conners of Eastern Oregon, Kevin McLemore of College of Idaho and Dylan Torgeron of Carroll College were also nominated for the award.

Offensive Player of the Week: Marcus Lenhardt, College of Idaho. Lenhardt is a 6-4, 225-pound sophomore tight end from Eagle, Idaho. In College of Idaho’s 38-17 home conference win over Rocky Mountain College, Lenhardt caught eight passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

Also nominated: Clay Cavender of Montana Tech, J.D. Ferris of Montana Western, Zach Bartlow of Eastern Oregon, Adonis Griffin of Southern Oregon and Mac Roche of Carroll College.

Defensive Player of the Week: Gary Posten, Eastern Oregon. Posten is a 6-1, 210-pound senior linebacker from Emmett, Idaho. In Eastern Oregon’s 23-30 conference loss to then No. 22 Montana Western, Posten recorded 11 unassisted tackles and two assisted tackles.

Also nominated: Tyler Gavlak of Montana Tech, Reno Ward of Montana Western, Tucker Johnson of Carroll College, Nate Moore of College of Idaho and Julius Rucker of Southern Oregon.
