Jake Owsley of Montana Western was named the Frontier Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Owsley is a 6-foot-8 junior center from Bozeman. He helped the Bulldogs win two games over the week. Western won at No. 12 Montana State-Northern 59-57 before returning home to beat Carroll College 79-74.
For the week, Owsley averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, one assist, 2.5 blocks and one steal. He was 14 of 24 from the field (58 percent) and 7 of 9 from the free throw line. Owsley scored the game-winning tip-in against Northern with 6 seconds remaining on the clock.
Also nominated for the award were P.J. Bolte of Lewis-Clark State, Adam Greger of Montana Tech, James Holmes of the University of Great Falls, Devin Jackson of Montana State-Northern, Dennis Mikelonis of Carroll College, Jeremy Nicholas of Rocky Mountain and Jake Orchard of Westminster College.
Erin Legel of the University of Great Falls was named the Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Legel is a 5-foot-5 freshman guard from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The Lady Argos upset No. 25 Carroll College 66-60 and lost to No. 4 Westminster College 42-70.
In the win over Carroll, she scored 23 points while pulling down two rebounds and dishing off five assists. For the week, Legel averaged 16 points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal. She was 11 of 21 from the field (52 percent), 5 of 10 in 3-point field goals (50 percent) and 5 for 6 from the free throw line.
