Western signs Washington hitter

DILLON — University of Montana Western head coach Lisa Griffiths announced another recruit for the 2013 volleyball season today.

Jessie Glidewell of Colville, Wash. signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA Letter of Intent and will compete with the Bulldogs in 2013.

“Jessie is the perfect fit for our university and volleyball program,” Griffiths said. “She is a great athlete with plenty of potential to develop into a dominant outside hitter. I’m excited to get her in the gym and watch her grow.”

Glidewell, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, was a member of the Colville High School volleyball, basketball and equestrian teams. As a sophomore and junior, her volleyball team finished as league, district and regional champions. Her sophomore team went on to place fifth in State 1A and won it all in Glidewell’s junior season.

During her senior season, Glidewell led her team to another league and district title as well as a fourth place finish in State 2A. Her 219 kills, 0.315 hitting percentage, 30 aces and 12 blocks earned her first-team Great Northern League honors. As a three-year varsity player, Glidewell helped her team amass a 98-8 record.

“We are adding another proven winner to Bulldog volleyball,” Griffiths continued. “Coming from a high school program with a history of success, Jessie will be ready to compete right away and knows what kind of hard work it takes to have a championship season.”

Glidewell is the daughter of Bill and Kelly Glidewell and plans to major in equine studies at Montana Western.

“I knew I wanted to attend UMW after spending several days participating in the volleyball camp last August,” Glidewell said. “I enjoyed the small town environment, friendly college staff and positive atmosphere shown by everyone on the team.”
