Western signs setter

DILLON — University of Montana Western head volleyball coach Lisa Griffiths announced her first signing for the 2013 season, Rachelle Chamberlain, to a Frontier Conference/NAIA Letter of Intent.

“I’m very excited to add Rachelle to the Bulldog family,” Griffiths said. “She will immediately compete for playing time and has the ability to add additional dimensions to our offense. Rachelle is going to compliment the players we have returning and help continue to build the Montana Western volleyball tradition.”

Chamberlain, a 5-foot-8 setter, played for the Challis High School Vikings in Challis, Idaho. As a senior she had 925 assists, 103 digs, 82 blocks and 71 kills to lead her team to an undefeated State Championship.

Chamberlain helped lead her team to four straight District Championships as a four-time Snake River Conference first team selection and two-time player of the year winner. She also earned all-state honors each year while leading her team to two state championships, a state runner-up and a third place finish.

Off the court, Chamberlain has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.

“Having been to the state tournament four times in high school is an accomplishment, let alone never finishing below third,” Griffiths stated. “Coming off an undefeated season and a state championship during her senior year, Rachelle is ready to bring a high level of play into our gym.”

Chamberlain is the daughter of Jim and Belynda Chamberlain and plans to study biology and equine science at Montana Western.
