Western men win in OT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jordan Overstreet hit a 3-pointer 46 seconds into overtime to put Montana Western up for good today as the Bulldogs beat Philander Smith of Arkansas 99-94 in the first round of the NAIA National Championship men’s basketball tournament.

The No. 14 Bulldogs (23-9) will play No 3 Lee of Tennessee at 9:45 a.m. Friday at the Municipal Auditorium. Lee is 30-3 on the season.

Tyler Miller and Kris Collins both scored 22 points to lead five Bulldogs in double figures in the win. Maazin Bulter poured in 16 points, while Overstreet and Vince Turk each scored 11.

Turk sent the game to overtime, tied at 78, with a bucket in the paint with 34 seconds left in regulation.

Also for Western, Kris Castro scored eight points, Jake Owsley, who grabbed 10 rebounds, scored six and Gabe Rucker scored three points and dished out six assists..

Andre Clark scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Philander Smith, which closes the season at 25-8. Damarkus Lipscomb scored 15 points and handed out 11 assists.
