Western men sign state’s top scorer

DILLON — The Montana Western men’s basketball team has signed the Class AA’s top scorer in Kooper Kidgell, coach Steve Keller announced today.

Kidgell is a 6-foot-4, 160 pound power forward from Billings Senior High School who averaged 23 points this past season.

In addition to his scoring prowess, Kidgell grabbed an average of seven rebounds a game while dishing out three assists.  He was voted a Montana Wyoming All-Star and selected as a second-team all-conference performer following his senior season.

Kidgell also competed on the cross country team, and he has earned honors in the classroom as an academic All-State selection.

“We are very excited that Kooper Kidgell has decided to join our basketball program at Montana Western. Kooper’s strength is scoring the basketball. He was the leading scorer in Class AA this past year averaging 22 per game,” Keller said. “Kooper can shoot the three, pull up for the mid-range jumper, or get to the basket and draw the foul. He shot 206 free-throws for the season, which ranked him at the top of the AA. Kooper can also pass the ball and has a very high basketball IQ. We look forward to his progress at Western.”

Kooper plans to study special education while attending classes at Montana Western.  He is the son of Karson and Pam Kidgell.
