Western grapplers compete at nationals

DILLON — The University of Montana Western Wrestling Club made a strong showing in its first appearance at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championship held March 14- 16 in Allen, Texas.

The UMW Wrestling Club placed seventh out of 47 teams in the NCWA Men’s Division 2, outcompeting teams from much larger colleges across the country. Montana Western student Harley Fandrich placed seventh in the Division 2 heavyweight class. The finish distinguished Fandrich as a NCWA All American. Originally from Peoria, Ariz., Fandrich is a freshman majoring in education.

Other Montana Western wrestlers included Jimmy Zhen, Tanner Beaman and Jayme Kelly. The UMW Wrestling Club is coached by Dan Payne.
