Western football sweeps Frontier honors

Players from Montana Western took all three awards Monday as the Frontier Conference announced the Football Player of the Week Awards.

Offensive Player of the Week: Bennett Gibson, Montana Western.

Gibson is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior quarterback from Mount Vernon, Washington. In No. 19 Montana Western’s opening 16-14 season opening conference win over College of Idaho, Gibson came off the bench and was 19 of 31 passing for 243 yards and one touchdown.

He rushed for 15 yards on six carries including a nine-yard scamper that picked up a Bulldog first down late in the fourth quarter.

Also nominated: Sam Sparks of Rocky Mountain College.

Defensive Player of the Week: Zach Janis, Montana Western

Janis is a 5-10, 190-pound junior cornerback from Yakima, Washington. In No. 19 Montana Western’s opening 16-14 season opening conference win over College of Idaho, Janis recorded eight solo tackles, one assisted tackle and one interception.

Also nominated and listed in alphabetical order; Keenan Fagan of Rocky Mountain College and Nate Moore of College of Idaho.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Mark Kharchenko, Montana Western.

Kharchenko is a 6-foot-3, 170-pound freshman kicker from Colville, Washington. In No. 19 Montana Western’s opening 16-14 season opening conference win over College of Idaho, Kharchenko was 3 of 3 in field goals and 1 of 1 extra points.

Three of his kick offs were booted through the end zone.

Also nominated: Prince Shonola of Rocky Mountain College.
