Western football signs 11

DILLON — University of Montana Western head football coach Ryan Nourse announced the signing of 11 Montana student athletes to Frontier Conference/NAIA Letters of Intent. This group represents the first of the 2013 Bulldog signings.

The list includes Great Falls Russell star running back Thomson as well as Southwest Montana products Max Orrin and Cole Miotke of Dillon and Marcus Monaco of Anaconda.

“We are really pleased with the addition of this group of Bulldogs,” Nourse said. “Each year we continue to build on the foundation of the program with Montana athletes, and this first wave of recruits helps us continue to strengthen the program on all sides of the ball. I’m looking forward to coaching all of these young men and watching them succeed on and off the field.”

The newest Bulldogs are:

Hunter Thomson — RB, 5-foot10, 180 pounds,  C.M. Russell High, Great Falls, Mont.: Thomson was an All-State selection at running back in 2012 and will play in the Montana Shrine game this summer. He plans to major in Education.

Max Orrin — Defensive end, 6-2, 205 pounds, Twin Bridges, Mont.:  Orrin was a member of the 2011 State Championship team and has been selected to play in the East-West Shrine game and the Bob Cleverly All-Star game. In his junior and senior seasons Orrin was named all-state on both the defensive and offensive line. Orrin intends to study Business Administration.

Jay Owens — Defensive back/running back, 6’1, 178 pounds, Big Sky, Missoula, Mont.:  Owens was an All-State selection on both sides of the ball this past season and is an alternate for the East-West Shrine game. Owens is also a two-time state placer in the 300m Hurdles. Owens plans to major in Education.

Cole Miotke — Defensive back, 5-10, 180 pounds, Twin Bridges, Mont.: Miotke was a member of the 2011 Class C State Championship team, was named All-State and has been selected to the East-West Shrine game and the Bob Cleverly All-Star game. Miotke intends to study education.

Patrick Valentine — Kicker, 5-10, 165 pounds., Libby, Mont.: Valentine was a first-team all-conference selection for the last three seasons. Valentine kicked the fifth longest field goal in Montana state history: a 52-yarder in his last high school game. Valentine will pursue a secondary education, English major.

Kylan Putman — Offensive lineman, 6-3, 240-pounds, Billings Senior, Billings, Mont.: Putman was an all-conference and All-State selection in his senior year and is an alternate for this summer’s East-West Shrine game. Putman plans to study education.

Marcus Monaco — Offensive lineman, 6-3, 260 pounds., Anaconda, Mont.:Monaco was an all-conference and All-state selection in his senior season. Monaco plans to major in wildlife ecology.

Sam Hilger — Wide receiver, 6-1, 180 pound, Helena, Mont.: Hilger earned all-state honors as a senior and plans to major in education.

Chandler Crowe — Linebacker, 6-1, 200 pounds., Skyview High, Billings, Mont.:Crowe was an all-state selection last year in football and is also a two-time state swimming champion. Crowe plans to major in education.

Tyler Webb — Tight end, 6-5, 230 pounds, Billings West, Billings, Mont.:Webb earned all-state honors this past season and was selected as an East-West Shrine game alternate. Webb will major in education.

Riley Rutschke — Defensive lineman, 6-foot, 255 pounds, Skyview High School, Billings, Mont.: Rutschke was an all-state performer on both sides of the ball. Rutschke will be playing in the East-West Shrine game. He plans to study social science.
