The Daktronics NAIA Academic All-America team was released on Friday, and three University of Montana Western players received the honor. The players are Brian Labbe, Jesse McCloud, and Torrey Vezina.
Brian Labbe was the starting center for the Bulldogs. He is from Superior. Brian will be graduating in the fall of 2014 with a degree in elementary education. In addition to this year’s Academic All-America honor, Brian has received Academic All-Conference honors in seasons past, has been on the Dean’s List for the last four semesters, and also is the recipient of the “Montana Athlete in Service Award” for 2013.
Jesse McCloud is a junior defensive back for the Bulldogs. He is originally from Churchill, where he played for Manhattan High School. On the field McCloud has received All-Conference honors the past two seasons. Following his 2013 campaign Jesse was voted to the first team All-Conference defensive team for his play in the UMW secondary. He is currently in the education program at Montana Western and plans to emphasize in art education with a minor in health and human performance.
Torrey Vezina has played linebacker and safety for the Bulldogs. He is from Dillon, where he graduated and played for Beaverhead County High School. Torrey will be graduating in the spring of 2015 with a degree in secondary education, emphasizing history and health and human performance. In his years of playing with the Bulldogs, Torrey has been a NAIA Scholar Athlete in 2012 and 2013, was named to the Academic All-Conference Team in 2011, 2012, and 2013, and has also been on the Academic Top Ten for the Bulldogs the past four years.
