Western, Carroll women advance to Frontier chipper

Montana Western and Carroll College picked up victories Friday night in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference women’s basketball playoffs.

Western held off Lewis-Clark State 71-67 in Dillon, while Carroll turned back Rocky Mountain College 61-50 in Helena.

The Bulldogs and Saints will meet in Monday’s 7 p.m. championship game at the Straugh Gymnasium in Dillon.

King also dished out five assists, collected three steals and grabbed six rebounds.

Cierra Lamey added 15 points for Western, which led 29-23 at halftime. The Bulldogs took a 56-51 lead into the fourth quarter after a high-scoring third quarter.

Britt Cooper added nine boards for Western, which got eight points from Paige Holmes, six from Shannon Worster, five from Brandy Bookout and four from Tori Anderson and Savannah Bignell. Darby Schey also contributed in the win.

Peyton Souvenir came off the bench to score 19 points to lead four Warriors in double figures. Cali Moscrip added 14 points for Lewis-Clark State (20-11). Jossilyn Blackman scored 13, and Jamie Nielson tossed in 10.

Carroll College 61, Rocky Mountain College 50

Christine Denney scored 15 for Carroll, which led 28-19 at halftime and 47-34 after three quarters. Hannah Dean poured in 14 points.

Markaela Francis scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Rocky (20-12). Justyn Juhl added 13 points.

Freshman Kloie Thatcher, a Butte Central graduate, contributed with five points and three assists.
