Western Bulldogs fall to Saints in Frontier opener

HELENA — The University of Montana Western volleyball team opened Frontier Conference play with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Carroll College Fighting Saints on Friday night.

Montana Western (4-8, 0-1) could never find its rhythm on offense as Carroll College (8-7, 2-0) took the match in straight sets, 17-25, 22-25, 19-25. (Box Score)

The Bulldogs were limited to 25 kills and a .053 hitting percentage in the match as the Saints tallied 39 kills, 38 assists and six service aces.

Freshman Kylie McCree paced the Bulldogs with eight kills in the match while hitting a .261 and adding in one solo block. Fellow freshman Cady Siemion added four kills and a .273 hitting percentage.

Dylan Fowler again led the Bulldogs floor defense with 13 digs, Brianna DeCock and Callie Hanson added 12 and 10 digs respectively as the Bulldogs totaled 57 digs in the match. Hanson also added nine assists to lead the team.

DeCock and Sierra Cahill notched one service ace a piece, Cahill tallied six assists and seven digs in the contest as well.

Montana Western will return to the court on Thursday for its home opener against the University of Great Falls at 7 p.m.
