Western adds Helena’s Tamol, Boulder’s Brunett

DILLON — University of Montana Western head football coach B.J. Robertson announced today the signing of Helena senior Kolby Tamol and Boulder  senior Alex Brunett to Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent.

Tamol is a 5-10, 250-pound offensive lineman from Helena Capital High School. He was selected as a first team all-conference player and a second-team All-State performer for his play his senior season.

Tamol was also voted a team captain for the Bruins by his teammates his senior year.  He has been a two time track team captain and is a state champion power lifter in 2012.

“We are excited Kolby has decided to join the Bulldog football family,” Robertson said.  “His power lifting background, strong work ethic, and coaching at Helena Capital have turned Kolby into a very powerful athlete on the field.  We are eager to put him to work as a Bulldog.

Tamol plans to study health and human performance at Montana Western.  He is the son of Cacey Maser and Bill Tamol.

Brunett is a 6-1, 190-pound defensive back from Jefferson High School.  In his senior campaign he recorded 42 tackles and six interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.  As well as an outstanding safety for Jefferson High School, he also threw for 1,906 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Following his senior year, Brunett was voted first team all-conference defensive back as well as the first team all-conference quarterback.  Brunett was also voted first team All-State and has been selected to play in the Class B All-Star game as well as the Badlands Bowl.  Along with his prowess on the gridiron, Brunett has been a two time lettermen in basketball and track.

“Alex has good size and speed but it is his competitiveness that separates him from other guys,” Robertson said.  “I have had the pleasure of watching Alex grow and mature into the person and athlete he is now while working with him at a variety of summer football camps.  I am so excited that he has decided to continue that process with us at Montana Western.”

Brunett plans to study secondary education with an emphasis in history at Montana Western. He is the son of Neil and Denise Brunett.
