The win was the 28th straight over Butte High by the Golden Bears (12-8), who advance to a Saturday’s 11 a.m. loser-out game against the loser of tonight’s semifinal battle between Great Falls High and Great Falls Russell.

“We fought and fought, we just didn’t hit shots,” Butte High coach Luke Powers said. “They hit shots, and we didn’t.”

Butte High closes the season at 4-16.

West senior guard Jesse Owens scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the first half as the Bears built a 32-21 halftime advantage. The Golden Bears led 43-31 after three quarters.

Trevyn Roth sank three 3-pointers and scored 12 points to lead the Bulldogs. Clay Ferguson scored nine points, while Jake Olson tossed in seven to go along with eight rebounds.

“We boarded well and played hard,” Powers said. “Jake Olson played really well. Kale McCarthy rebounded like crazy.”
