West boys escape Bulldog upset bid

BILLINGS — Butte High was done in by a fourth-quarter slump Saturday

Billings West outscored Butte high 19-8 in the fourth quarter Saturday to turn back the Bulldogs’ upset bid with a 62-53 Eastern AA boys’ basketball win.

Butte High led 46-44 early in the fourth quarter. Then Jared Samuelson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to spark the Battlin’ Bears, who improved to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in league play.

Samuelson scored 23 points to lead the Bears. Teammate Jeremiah Cochran added 17 points.

Dallas Cook’s 17 points paced the Bulldogs. He scored 12 points in the first half and missed substantial time in foul trouble in the second half.

Brian Smith added 14 points for the Bulldogs, who fell to 2-12 and 1-7.  The Bulldogs also got nine from Corey Farstveet, five from Killian O’Leary and four from Peter Granger and Chanse Kremer.

The road doesn’t get any easier for the Bulldogs. Butte High will play at Class A No. 1 Dillon on Tuesday.
