Ramsbacher third, Sundheim ties for fourth

BILLINGS — Isaiah Weldon had another good day Tuesday.

The Montana Tech senior golfer shot a 2-under-par 69 at the Yegen Golf Club to place second at the Battlin’ Bears Invitational.

Weldon, a Butte High graduate, shot a 70 and a 67 on Monday. His second-round Monday included a double eagle on a par 5.

At 206, Weldon finished two shots behind medalist Haydn Driver of host Rocky Mountain College. Driver hit a 70 after two rounds of 67 on Monday.

Montana Tech senior Sean Ramsbacher hit a 68 on the third round and placed third at 208. The Missoula native shot a pair of 70s on Monday.

Rocky won the men’s title with a 9-under-par 843 total. The Bears followed Monday’s 277 and 282 with a 284. The Orediggers shot 288-280-288 to place second at 856. Rocky’s B tam took third at 869.

Also for Tech, Matt Hobbs (75-72-75) shot a 222, Jace Rhodes (73-79-76) hit 229, Nick Pasquarello (76-71-82) hit 220, Jhett Braley (76-81-74) finished at 231, and Blake Hasquet (78-76-79) carded a 233.

On the women’s side, Rocky’s Claire Wright made it 4 for 4 on the fall. She followed a 76 with a 74 to win medalist honors with a 150. She beat teammate Valentian Zuelta, who also shot a 74 Tuesday, by one shot.

Katie Fagg of Carroll College took third at 155, and Montana Tech Freshman Cierra Sundheim tied Carroll’s Caroline Hobson for fourth at 160. Sundheim hit a final round 82. Hobson shot a 76.

Oredigger freshmen Franchi Ceartin, the first-round leader, and Sami Benson tied for sixth at 161. Benson shot a 79 Tuesday, and Ceartin hit an 86.

Rocky won the tournament at 636. The Bears slipped six shots for a 321. Tech placed second at 654, beating Carroll by one shot.

The Orediggers, who hit a school-record 319 on Monday, shot a 335 on Tuesday.

Also for Tech, Emily Kelly (84-88) hit 172, Kennedy Lean (89-93) shot 182, Lauren Williams (88-95) finished at 183, and Reyla Williams (94-99) hit 193.

Tech will close the fall schedule with a tournament hosted by Carroll Oct. 15 at the Bill Roberts Golf Course in Helena.
