Wednesday’s Hot Ticket: Frontier playoffs

It’s do-or-die time for the Orediggers (16-14) as they head to Billings to take on the Battlin’ Bears (19-11) in the quarterfinals of the Frontier Conference Playoffs.

Rocky took two out of three games from the Orediggers in the regular season. Rocky beat Tech in an 84-80 battle Friday in Butte. Tech won the first meeting 75-67 Jan. 5 in Butte. Rocky took the second game 88-55 two weeks later in Billings.

Craig Wilmore and Clayton Ladine each scored 20 points to lead the Bears in Friday’s win. Jared Samuelson scored 15 points. The former Montana Grizzly also joined Wilmore with seven rebounds.

Taylor England’s 22 points and 17 rebounds lead the Orediggers. The 17 boards tied Brian Watson, Jeff Timm and T.J. Scarbrough for second on Tech’s all-time list. Jake Williams’ 18 in 2007 is the most every by an Oredigger in a game.

Troy Owens Jr. tossed in 17, while Derrius Collins scored 12, and Drew Huse tossed in 10.

Other first-round games see Montana Western travel to Lewis-Clark State College and the University of Providence head to MSU-Northern. Regular-season champion Carroll College receives a bye into the semifinals. All games will be played at 7 p.m. local time.
