Vining, Bison edge Butte High boys

GREAT FALLS — Lukas Vining scored 31 points Thursday night to lead Great Falls High to a 73-69 win over Butte High.

The game was the Eastern AA opener for both teams.

Brian Smith scored 17 points to lead four Butte High players in double figures. Dallas Cook added 15 points before fouling out, while Peter Granger tossed in 14 and Cory Farstveet netted 12.

Also, Colten scored nine points, and Killian O’Leary tossed in two.

Brendan Howard scored 17 for the Bison, who improved to 5-2 overall.

Butte High (1-5) will play host to Great Falls High at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Butte Civic Center.
