MISSOULA — The University of Montana’s Jordan Tripp and Zack Wagenmann were named to The Sports Network 2012 Football Championship All-America Team, that organization announced today (Monday, Dec. 10).
A 6-foot-3, 244-pound junior linebacker from Missoula (Big Sky High School), was named to the second team on defense. He was Montana’s second leading tackler with 95 stops, and had a team-high 13.5 tackles for loss. He served as the Grizzlies’ captain on defense.
Tripp was a first team All-Big Sky Conference pick. He received UM’s Tony Barbour Award, which goes to the Grizzly player, “ who best exemplifies the values and work ethic of Grizzly football.”
Also a local product (Sentinel High School), Wagenmann, a 6-3 ½, 240-pound sophomore defensive end from Missoula, had a team-high 11.5 sacks and was Montana’s sixth leading taclker (tie) with 50 stops. He is currently ranked fourth in the FCS, averaging 1.05 sacks a game.
Wagenmann was also a first team All-Big Sky selection. He was chosen Montana’s outstanding defensive lineman, and presented the Larry Miller Award at the team’s recent annual awards luncheon.
The Big Sky led all FCS conferences (a PDF of the entire TSN All-American Team is attached) with 16 selections, followed by the Southern Conference with 15, CAA Football with 12, and the Missouri Valley with 11.
Five Big Sky players earned first team honors, which tied for the second-most among conferences. The league also had eight second team picks and three players named to the third team.
