UM basketball player charged with DUI

MISSOULA (AP) — University of Montana basketball player Spencer Coleman faces a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.

The Missoulian reports Coleman was arrested at about 2:45 a.m. Monday after an officer spotted a broken tail lamp on his car as it was stopped on a street for several moments before pulling into a bar parking lot.

Court records say Coleman spoke with slurred speech, had red, glossy eyes and smelled of alcohol. He refused a breath test.

The 6-foot-6 forward from Eugene, Ore., was a junior on Montana’s 2012-13 Big Sky Conference championship team.

In February, he was charged with speeding and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Athletic director Kent Haslam says the student-athlete code of conduct applies even though school is not in session.
