Two big innings clinch Hamilton win over Butte Central

HAMILTON — Scoring nine runs over the last two innings, Hamilton pulled away for a 16-6 Southwestern A Conference high school girls’ softball victory on Friday.
The game ended in the fifth inning on the 10-run difference rule.
Thea Jackson scored four runs for Hamilton, reaching base on two walks, a double and a single. Mariah Johnson also hit a double, and Brynne Johnson pitched the win. Cierra Cole thumped a triple. Brynne Johnson and Addison Flynn each whacked a pair of singles.
Butte Central racked up 10 hits, led by a double and two singles from Hattie Mehring. Brooke Badovinac clobbered a triple and Mia Keeley banged out a double. Sophia Gelling, Jaeden Berger, Kathryn Lalicker, Arika Stajcar and Amanda Wheelock each singled.
Badovinac, Mehring and Berger drove in the BC runs.
The loss put the Maroons at 0-3 for the season and in conference play. The BC girls have yet to practice outside during this wintry spring that has kept Butte fields snow-covered and the temperatures cold.
Butte Central is next scheduled to play on Tuesday against Dillon in what is hoped to be the Maroons’ home opener this season at Stodden Park. The game has been postponed twice because of bad weather.
