Turnover/foul trouble puts Dogs in pound

Dillon Beavers (1-1/3-2) 68 Butte High Bulldogs (0-0/1-2) 43

The Butte High Bulldogs traveled to Dillon for a double header Tuesday evening against the Dillon Beavers. The Bulldogs came out hot on a 9-1 run to start the game. It started with two quick fast break buckets for Hudson Luedtke, and then a tray ball from Casey Merrifield to go up 7-0

Dillon couldn’t buy a bucket especially at the foul line early on and Butte took the advantage to 9-1 until Dillon knocked down back-to-back 3 pointers to erase the deficit to just 3 points with 2:35 left. Butte would take the advantage to 11-7 as Dillon would hit another 3 to cut the lead to 1 at the end of the first quarter, 11-10 Bulldogs.

Butte struggled with fouls and turnovers early on and to start the 2nd quarter as the Beavers came out and got a quick 2 to go up 12-11.

Casey Merrifield knocked down a triple to make it 14-13 Dogs, the Beavers would get a put back basket to make it 15 -14 Dillon, and then the turnovers and fouls started piling up for coach Luedtke’s Bulldogs.

Butte High had 6 team fouls with 6:08 remaining in the first half, the Bulldogs were able to hang around as Dillon was only 2 of 7 from the line in the first half. The Bulldogs were in the penalty with 5 plus minutes remaining in the half. Butte High only scored 3 points in almost 7 minutes after starting with a 9-1 lead.

Dillon would go on a 13-3 run and the Bulldogs would have 12 first half turnovers as the Beavers led at the break, 28-22. Butte High shot 41 percent from the field in the first half and 4 of 13 from deep shooting it at 30 percent for the half.

Dillon would start the half with a 3-point play off an offensive rebound to take the lead to 31-22, McDonald would hit a 3 and cut it to 31-25 advantage Beavers. Foul trouble and taking poor care of the ball would continue to haunt the Bulldogs in the second half, as they racked up 3 turnovers and 3 team fouls in a minute’s time. Hudson Luedtke would get fouled and knock down both free throws, the Beavers would get a quick lay in to go up 37-29.

On the Bulldogs next possession Casey Merrifield would miss a deep 3 that would lead to a 3 pointer on the other end of the floor by the Beavers for a 6-point swing and the Bulldogs never got any closer, Beavers led 50-37 after 3.

Dillon owned the 4th outscoring Butte 23-7 in the final frame as the Bulldog defense fell apart and let this one gets out of hand late. The Beavers would go on to win in convincing fashion 68-43.

The Bulldogs will play again January 6th @ home against Glacier.
