The Butte Civic Center will set the scene as the Bulldogs begin the 2017-18 campaign at home. Note the game time is earlier than usual. The contest is the opener for both teams.

Butte High enters the season with just one senior on the roster, Lathan Rickets. Junior Kash Kelly is Butte High’s lone returning starter for a team that went 9-12 overall and 4-8 in the Eastern AA last season. Sophomore Tommy Mellott and juniors Clay Ferguson, Kale McCarthy, Zach Carlson and Trevyn Roth are also expected to see time at the varsity level for coach Luke Powers’ Bulldogs.

Helena High went 6-15 overall and 5-7 in the Western AA. The Bengals won the lone meeting between the two teams last year in Helena. Neither team advanced to the Class AA State tournament.

The Bulldogs open Year 3 under head coach Maury Cook on the road against the defending Class AA State champions.

Jamie Pickens, a 6-foot-2 junior, is back after leading the Bengals with 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game last year. Pickens committed to the University of Montana last month. Senior Kamden Hilborn averaged 10.1 points per game a season ago.

Juniors Brittney Tierney and Ally Cleverly lead the Bulldogs, who are looking to improve on last year’s 2-19 campaign. They will likely be joined in the starting lineup by junior Aspen Lovshin and sophomores Kira Mortensen and Haley Herron.

The Bulldogs will play their first home game next Tuesday against Missoula Big Sky at the Butte Civic Center.
