Trey Hoagland’s 73 leads Great Falls Invitational

GREAT FALLS — Trey Hoagland is topping the entire Class AA halfway through the Great Falls Invitational golf tournament.

The Butte High senior fired a 1-over-par 73 Monday at the Meadow Lark Country Club to lead the season-opening tournament at the halfway point.

Hoagland is one stroke ahead of Billings West’s Garrett Woodin and Helena High’s Kienan Stief. Three golfers are at 75, while Butte High sophomore Isaiah Weldon sits in a six-way tie for seventh place at 76.

The Bulldogs shot 311 as a team and head into Tuesday’s final round at the Eagle Falls Golf Course in third place. Billings West leads the way at 307. Missoula Sentinel is second at 309.

Junior Houston Green added a 79 for the Bulldogs, while sophomore Will Hoagland hit 83 and senior Eric Fogerty shot 88. Only the two four scores each day count in team standings.

On the girls’ side, Butte High junior Alexis Williams fired a 90 and sits in seventh place. West’s Hayden Flohr leads the tournament at 74. Tiegan Avery of Kalispell Glacier is second at 77.

West and Bozeman are tied for first at 366, four shots better than Great Falls High. After a 462, Butte High is in 10th place.

Also for Butte High, junior Katelyn Alley shot 114, sophomore Sadie Starceivch hit 119 and sophomore Kelliann Neary hit 139 in her first varsity tournament.
