Trey Hoagland, Alexis Williams crack top 10 at tourney

GREGSON — On a rainy day on the Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Course, Butte High senior Trey Hoagland made a bit of a surge. Bulldog junior Alexis Williams, meanwhile, held steady.

Both finished in the top 10 at the Butte Invitational golf tournament that featured all 14 teams from the Class AA.

Hoagland followed Thursday’s disappointing 80 with a 76 in the rain and cold on Friday for a 156 and 10th place.

Billings West’s Joey Moore followed an even-par 72 with a 70 on Friday for the team title at 142. Billings Skyview’s Payton Stott placed second at 147. Schafer Paladichuk, who hit 71 Friday, took third at 150, followed by Logan Teegarden of Helena High at 151.

Billings West also won the team total at 625. The Bears shot 317 after Thursday’s 308. Billings Skyview placed second at 633. Butte High dropped 16 shots to 331 and took third at 646.

Houston Green followed Thursday’s 77 with an 86 and a 163, while Will Hoagland carded an 89 after a first-round 76 for a 165. Eric Fogerty shot an 85 for a 167, and Isaiah Weldon improved five shots for an 84 and a 173.

On the girls’ side, Billings West’s Hayden Flohr gained seven shots to tie Kalispell Glacier’s Teigan Avery on top of the leaderboard. Flohr shot a 78 to match Avery at 161. Avery shot a final-round 85.

Flohr took home medalist honors thanks to a scorecard playoff. The playoff went back to the hardest hole on the course.

Bozeman’s Hannah Rosanova placed third at 177, followed by teammate Kameryn Basye at 179. Williams shot 90 both days and took fifth at 180.

Bozeman ran away with the girls’ team title at 747. The Hawks shot a 378 on the final day. Great Falls High placed second at 774, followed by Glacier at 777.

Butte High placed 12th at 912. The Bulldogs improved eight shots for a final-round 452.

Sadie Starcevich improved two shots for a 111 and a 224 total. Katelyn Alley came in five shots better than Thursday with a 119 and a 243, while Kelliann Neary improved on shot for a 132 and a 265.

Butte High will host a tournament next week at the Old Works and Butte Country Club.
