The Southwest Montana Junior Golf Tour kicked off Monday in honor of the tour’s former tournament director.
Twenty-six young golfers competed in the Lee LaBreche Kick-Off Classic at the Highland View Golf Course. The tournament began with a few words about LaBreche, who unexpectedly died at 55 in February, by new tournament director Curtis Smith.
Ella Prigge, Makayla Bury, Ty Insko, Joseph McGreevey and Gavin Roesti then went out and captured their division titles in the season opener. (Complete results)

Prigge shot a 91 over 18 holes to win the Lexi Thompson Division for girls 16-17. Fellow Butte Golfer MacKenzie Finnegan took second at 99. Butte’s Kendall Petritz was third at 100.
Bury, who is from Clancy, was the lone player in the Nelly Korda Division for girls 14-15. She shot a 108.
Ty Insko of Butte shot a 78 won the Dustin Johnson Division for boys 16-17. He beat Butte’s Johns Sullivan by three shots. Butte’s Brady Anderson took third at 89, while Adler Lybbert of Montana City shot a 92.
Joseph McGreevey of Helena hit an 82 to win the Jordan Spieth Division for boys 14-15. Butte’s Jack Prigge took second at 90. Kaden Fish of Spokane placed third at 101.
Gavin Roesti of Butte shot a nine-hole 49 to win the Rickie Fowler Division for boys 12-13. Butte golfers Chase Choquette and Jack Keeley tied for second. Choquette silver medal by winning a chip off.
Brenner Booth of Butte placed fourth at 57.
The tour will stop again on Tuesday, June 18 at the Silver Bow Open at the Butte Country Club. Tournament officials expect more competitors in that tournament.
Several players missed the opener to compete in the Montana State Junior Divisional District 3 tournament in Bozeman.
