DICKINSON N.D. — The Mining City Tommyknockers got back to winning ways Wednesday night, and it took extra innings for them to do it.
The Knockers scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to knock off the Badlands Big Sticks 4-2 in an Expedition League game at Dakota Community Bank and Trust Field. (Boxscore)
Judah Wilbur doubled in a 4-for-5 performance to lead the Knockers. James Martin doubled, and Justin Greene hit two singles. Seth Lucero and Mike Decker singled in the win.
Connor Phelan struck out five and scattered three hits in five shutout innings of relief to get the win. Dylan Wilhelm fanned two in a perfect inning to get the save.
Missoula native Drew Leonard had another strong start, going four innings, for the Butte club.
For the Sticks, the loss spoiled a solid performance by starter Parker Stohr, who struck out eight over seven and a third innings.
Wyatt Setian doubled, while Alex Thurston, Derek Gellos and Angel De La Cruz each hit two singles for the Sticks.
The Tommyknockers (13-11) remain three games behind first-place Souris Valley in the race for first place in the Lewis Division. They are one game behind the Big Sticks.
The teams close the four-game series Thursday night. Then they come to Butte to play three at 3 Legends Stadium starting Friday.
