The Mining City Tommyknockers will go for their first home series victory Sunday when they battle the Western Nebraska Pioneers on Miners Field at 3 Legends Stadium.
The Tommyknockers erupted for nine runs in the fist inning and rolled to a 13-5 Expedition League victory over the Pioneers in Game 2 of the three-game set on a windy Saturday night. (Boxscore)
Jack Walker led off the first with the first of his two triples to start the Mining City rout. The Butte club sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning. The outburst came after the Pioneers scored a run in the top of the first.
Carter Dobrinski had a huge game for the Knockers. He went 4 for 4 with two doubles and four RBIs to highlight Butte’s 11-hit attack.
Hayden Brown started on the bump and surrendered three runs through five innings to get the win. Butte native Liam Sommer pitched the sixth and seventh innings. The righty gave up one run on one hit. He struck out three batters.
No. 9 hitter Clay Cutter went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Pioneers. Tyler Gerety added a double and single.
Sunday’s series finale starts at 5:35 p.m. That will wrap up the Tommyknockers six-game home stand. The next home game at 3 Legends Stadium will be June 15 against the Spearfish Sasquatch.
