The All-Star break was apparently pretty good for the Mining City Tommyknockers.

Butte’s Expedition League baseball team got strong pitching, timely hitting and strong defense Thursday night, and the Tommyknockers rolled to a 10-1 win over the Pierre Trappers on Miners Field at 3 Legends Stadium. (Boxscore)

The win pulled the Knockers (10-8) to within a game of the first-place Souris Valley Sabre Dogs (11-7) in the second-half Lewis Division standings.

Seth Lucero, David Melfi and Nick Hansen each had a two-hit game to lead the Tommyknocker attack. Lucero and Hansen hit a double, as did Jake Mastillo, who joined Hansen with two RBIs.

Justin Green, Judah Wilbur and Hayden Brown singled in the win.

Missoula’s Drew Leonard worked three scoreless innings of relief to get the victory. He struck out five and scattered three hits. He relieved starter Jeremy Husband, who fanned eight in three innings of work.

Jason Kramlich worked two perfect innings, striking out three.

Andrew Kim scored on a wild pitch for the lone Trappers run in the ninth. Kim doubled earlier in the game. Pierre’s Richard Williams hit two singles.

The teams will play again Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 3 Legends Stadium. The next two games start at 7:05 p.m. Sunday’s game begins at 5:35.
