Thursday’s Hot Ticket: Volleyball, soccer and golf

Polson at Butte Central, 7 p.m.
The Maroons play their home opener at the Maroon Activities Center on the heels of a solid performance at last weeks’ tipoff tournament in Dillon. BC went 8-2 in pool play before knocking off Whitefish in a matchup of No. 2 seeds. The Maroons will head to the Windy City Classic Saturday in Belgrade.

Butte High at Great Falls High, boys at 3:30 p.m. girls at 5:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs will try for a second time to open their season. This time it will be with Eastern AA contests against the Bison. The boys play at 3:30 p.m., while the girls’ game is set for 5:30. The Bulldogs were supposed to play in the Electric City last week, but the Great Falls Jamboree was called off because of smoky conditions. Great Falls air quality is good this morning, according to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

Butte High at Butte Invitational (at Fairmont), 10 a.m.

All 14 Class AA teams will be on hand as the Bulldogs host a tournament at the Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Course. The last team these teams got together, Butte High senior Trey Hoagland placed second at the Great Falls Invitational. Hoagland tied with teammate Houston Green to place 10th at the Billings Invitational last week. Bulldog Alexis Williams placed ninth on the girls’ side last week. The crowded field includes a Billings West boys’ team that shot a 575 over two days in Billings. Second-round play begins at 9 a.m. Friday.
