Thursday’s Hot Ticket: Oredigger basketball

Women’s college basketball
Montana Tech at Lewis-Clark State College, 6:30 p.m.

The Orediggers open Frontier Conference play on the road against the Warriors.

Both schools take an 8-1 record into the opener. Jossilyn Blackman, a 6-foot senior post, leads the Warriors with 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Former Columbia Falls star Kiara Burlage, a 6-foot sophomore, adds 10.3 points and 7.4 boards for L-C State.

Junior post Kaylee Zard and sophomore guard Mesa Williams lead the Orediggers. Zard averages 14.5 points and 8.6 rebounds, while Williams is scoring 14.3 points per game. Junior post Shay Potter adds 10.6 points and 6.0 rebounds to the lineup. Sophomore Mollie Peoples and freshman Dani Urick each averaged 9.1 points per game in the preseason.

The Orediggers will play host to Montana Western on Tuesday.

Men’s college basketball

Tech faces a tough opening test when the Orediggers take on the No. 17-ranked Warriors.

The Orediggers take an 8-2 record into the Frontier season, while Lewis-Clark State stands at 6-1. Six Warriors enter the game averaging in double figures, with Race Martin, Dana Abe and Cory Dollarhide lead the way. Martin, a 6-6 senior forward, averages a team-best 16.5 points per game. Abe scores 16.3, while fellow senior guard Dollarhide tosses in 16.0.

Taylor England, a 6-7 sophomore, leads five Orediggers averaging in double figures with 16.3 points per game. Sophomore guard Nick Fitts, who is coming off a 39-point performance, averages 14.7, while 6-4 junior Blake Dittman scores 12.3.

Tech’s next game is Tuesday’s home battle with Montana Western.
