Thursday’s Hot Ticket: Diggers vs. Dawgs

Women’s college basketball
Montana Tech at Montana Western, 5:30 p.m.

The Orediggers head to the Straugh Gymnasium for their third Frontier Conference meeting with the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs.

Western (12-2, 21-2) took the first two meetings, both in Butte. The Bulldogs won 76-45 Dec. 4 and 70-57 Jan. 29. Senior guard Brianna King averages 22.6 points to lead the Bulldogs. She is the lone player on the deep, talented Western roster to average in double figures scoring. Cierra Lamey adds 9.1 points per game, while Bitt Cooper adds 8.9  points and 6.8 rebounds.

Mesa Williams averages 12.8 points per game lead the Orediggers (2-12, 12-13), who are trying to stop a five-game losing streak. Mollie Peoples comes off the bench to average 11.3 points per game, while Kaylee Zard averages 11.2 points and 8.8 rebounds.

Men’s college basketball
Montana Tech at Montana Western, 7:30 p.m.

The Orediggers go for the regular-season sweep of the Bulldogs in the nightcap at the Straugh Gym. Tech won 71-60 Dec. 4 and 84-68 Jan. 29. Both those games were in Butte.

Taylor England’s 15.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game leads the Orediggers (5-9, 15-11), who have lost three straight. Troy Owens Jr. adds 14.4 points. That average goes up to 16.7 in conference games.

Western (2-12, 8-17) is coming off Saturday’s 80-79 home win over Rocky Mountain College. Kooper Kidgell’s 16.6 points per game paces western. Cedric Boone is scoring 14.4 points per game.
