The Orediggers (4-7) will open the Frontier Conference season against the No. 24-ranked Saints (10-0) at the P.E. Center. Cassidy Hashley, a 6-foot-2 center, averages 13.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game to lead the unbeaten Saints. Freshman Sammy McGree’s 13.6 points per game leads five Orediggers averaging in double figures. However, the team’s second- and third-leading scorers are injured. Senior guard Shayla Mack will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL and be out for the season. She was averaging 11.9 points per game. Point guard Hattie Thatcher, who averages 11.7 points per game missed the last several games with an ankle injury. Kourtney Coverdell (10.4 ppg) and Rachel Ferris (10.1) also average in double figures for the Orediggers, who are looking to snap a six-game losing streak.
Men’s college basketball
Montana Tech at Carroll College, 7:30 p.m.
The Orediggers (5-4) will try to snap a four-game losing streak when they open Frontier Conference play against the Saints (4-2) at the P.E. Center. Zach Taylor, who scored 25 points against Dickinson State last time out, averages a team-best 20 points per game to lead the Saints. Tech guard Jalen Coates leads the Frontier Conference with 21.6 points per game. Cruz Ginns Jr. (16.1) and Paul Engstrom (15.7) also score in double figures. Engstrom averages 7.6 rebounds. The Orediggers will be home Saturday to take on Lewis-Clark State College in a conference game.
