The Bulldogs hit the road for a non-conference dual with the Beavers at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.
Butte High is coming off a fourth-place performance at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula. Keagan Gransbery placed second at 120 pounds to lead the Bulldogs at that meet. Kameron Moreno took third at 205 pounds, Trey Whitlock finished fourth at 103, and Kobe Moreno placed fifth at heavyweight.
The Bulldogs will compete at the Class AA duals Saturday in Great Falls.
Women’s college basketball
Rocky Mountain at Montana Tech, 5:30 p.m.
The Oredigger women (11-7, 1-5) look to stop a five-game losing streak as they open the Frontier Conference doubleheader at the HPER Complex.
Tech is coming off last-possession losses to the University of Providence and MSU-Northern last week at home. Montana Tech junior Mesa Williams leads the Orediggers and the Frontier conference with 17.1 points per game. She is one of four Orediggers averaging in double figures scoring.
Fellow junior Mollie Peoples, a Butte Central graduate, averages 11.7 points, senior Kaylee Zard adds 10.7 points and 7.2 rebounds, and true freshman Tavia Rooney is averaging 10.3 points and a Frontier-leading 11.3 rebounds per game.
Markaela Francis scores 16.2 points per game to lead Rocky (12-5, 3-3), which is coming off losses at home to Carroll and at Montana Western. Destinee Pointer scores 11.1 points per game for the Battlin’ Bears, while sophomore Kloie Thatcher, a Butte Central grad, scores 10.5 points. Thatcher, also averages 3.4 assists, scored 17 points as the Bears beat Tech 62-52 Jan. 9 in Billings.
The Orediggers will play host to Montana Western on Saturday.
Men’s college basketball
Rocky Mountain at Montana Tech, 7:30 p.m.
The Oredigger men (11-6, 3-3) will go for their eighth win in nine games in the nightcap.
Junior Sindou Diallo averages 21 points per game to lead the Orediggers, who are coming off Saturday’s 75-64 home win over MSU-Northern. Diallo scored 21 points in that win. Classmate Taylor England adds 15.5 points and 8.4 rebounds to the lineup. He scored 24 points in Saturday’s victory.
Senior Troy Owens junior (12.9 points per game) and senior Dylan Pannabecker (10.1) are also averaging in double figures scoring for the Orediggers, who beat Rocky 80-72 Jan. 9 in Billings. Diallo scored 26 in that win.
Darius Henderson’s 15.4 points per game leads the Bears, who have lost four straight (6-9, 1-5), who have lost four straight. Clayton Ladine averages 11.7 points, while Brandon The Boy and Sam Vining follow with 11.3 and 10.9 points per game.
Tech will battle Montana Western Saturday at the HPER.
