Prep boys’ basketball
Helena Capital at Butte High, 7 p.m.
The Ross J. Richardson Memorial Gymnasium will set the scene as the Bulldogs (4-9, 3-6) look to salvage the season split with the Bruins (9-2, 6-1) in the Western AA battle.
Capital beat Butte High 67-52 when the teams met Jan. 7 in Helena. Trevor Swanson, a 6-foot-3 senior, poured in 19 points to lead the way. Brayden Koch, a 6-1 sophomore, added 16 for Capital, which has won five straight. Bridger Grovom averages a team-leading 14.3 points per game.
Juniors Cael Stenson and Jake Olson each scored 12 points to lead Butte High in Round 1 with Capital. Olson is coming off a 23-point performance in Tuesday’s 66-59 overtime loss at Helena Capital. Junior Blake Drakos scored 11 in that loss.
Dillon at Butte Central, 6 p.m.
The Maroons (13-2, 6-2) enter the opener of the doubleheader at the Maroon Activities Center needing a win against the injury-plagued Beavers (4-7, 1-5).
Central trails Hamilton by one game in the loss column heading into the Southwestern A game. BC is tied with Frenchtown, which takes seven-game winning streak into Thursday’s home game against Hamilton.
The Maroons beat Dillon 41-37 when the teams met Jan. 10 in Dillon. Braden Harrington scored 15 points, while Jared Simkins tossed in 10 to lead BC in the victory. Cole Jace Fitzgerald scored 15, and Cole Truman added 14 for the Beavers, who are looking to stop a four-game losing streak.
BC is coming off Saturday’s 52-47 home loss to Hamilton. After starting the season with 12 straight wins, the Maroons have lost two out of their last three.
Prep girls’ basketball
Butte High at Helena Capital, 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (7-6, 4-5) look to build on Tuesday’s impressive win when they head to Helena to take on the powerful Bruins (11-0, 7-0).
Mara McGinley scored 17 points, and Dani Bartsch added 12 as the Bruins beat Butte High 55-45 Jan. 7 in Butte. Bartsch, a 6-4 junior, averages 10.3 points and 9.8. Dani Bartch, a 6-1 junior, adds 10.2 points and 7.0 rebounds.
Senior Makenna Carpenter continued her hot stretch by scoring 14 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 51-46 win over defending Class AA state champion Helena High Tuesday at the Civic Center. Classmate Haley Herron added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Trisha Ericson tossed in 11 points, and junior MacKenzie Tutty scored eight points.
Dillon at Butte Central, 7:30 p.m.
The Maroons (1-14, 0-8) look to slow down the Beavers (9-2, 6-0) in the nightcap at the MAC.
The Beavers, who have won six straight, beat BC 51-32 when the teams met Jan. 10 in Dillon. Josey Jones averages 10.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game to lead the Beavers. Ainsley Shipman follows with 8.6 points and 8.0 boards per game.
Sophomore Sofee Thatcher’s 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game leads the Maroons. Junior Delaney Hasquet has averaged 10 points over BC’s last three games.
