SAN JOSE, Calif. — Shaine Fuji, Zechariah Takahashi and Ryson McCaskill combined to pitch a no-hitter Monday, and Hawaii-Pear City beat the Butte Northwest-Mile High All-Stars 10-0 at Cambrian Park.
The Junior League Baseball West Regional tournament game was called by the 10-run rule after six innings. Hawaii moves on to play Wyoming-Riverton in a loser-out game on Wednesday.
Butte will play a consolation game against host Cambrian Park at 9:30 a.m. (Mountain Time) on Wednesday.
Fuji struck out five batters over three no-hit innings, while Takahashi fanned five over two innings. McGaskill struck out the side in his inning of work.
Takahashi and Eli Oshiro doubled, and Asher Kwon went 3 for 3 to lead the Hawaii offense.
Garret Sharp drew a pair of walks for Butte. Quinn Cox and Mason Armstrong each walked once.
The Butte team qualified for the tournament by winning the state 13-14 title last week in Billings. Other members of the team are Tyler Duffy, Derek Dunmire, Jim Blow, Cameron Tobiness, Gavin Trudgeon, John McCarthy, Jonas Sherman, Zack O’Connell, Garrett Sharp and Aiden Cuchine.
Samm Cox is the manager. He is assisted by Dave Dunmire, Chad O’Connell and Mike Duffy.
The winner of the double-elimination tournament advances to the Junior World Series in Michigan.
