BELGRADE — Sofee Thatcher’s two home runs were not enough to carry the Army team past Navy in the championship game of the 9th Annual Veterans Memorial Softball Classic.

Navy beat Army, which included Thatcher and soon-to-be Butte High sophomore Ashlinn Mullaney, in the championship game of the tournament that featured some of the best high school players in the state.

Thatcher, a recent Butte Central graduate, went 3 for 4 with the two jacks and three RBIs in the championship game. Mullaney went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

Army beat Air Force 8-0 and 6-4 before taking down the Marines 6-2 to advance to the championship game. Thatcher hit two doubles in the 6-4 win over the Air Force.
