BOZEMAN — Butte natives Cutter Thatcher and Abby Dodge had nice days for the University of Montana track team Wednesday at the Tom Cage Invitational. (Results)
Both placed second as the Grizzlies wrapped up the regular season and look forward to next week’s Big Sky Championships in Ogden, Utah.
Thatcher, a freshman Butte Central graduate, competed in both the 200 meters and 400 meters for the first time in his college career. He placed second in the 400 with a time of 49.40 seconds. Despite never before running the event, and being just a freshman, Thatcher’s time currently ranks 12th in the Big Sky this season.
Thatcher placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 22.66 seconds.
Dodge, a Butte High graduate who is a junior in outdoor track, posted a season-best 37 feet, 1 inch to place second in the triple jump. She also cleared 5-5 to tie for first in the high jump.
She tied with teammate Morgan Radtke and MSU’s Zoe Johnson, but settled for third on jumps.
Another Butte native, Lindsay McGree, completed for Montana State. The sophomore Butte Central grad placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.16. She placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 16-10 ½.
The Big Sky Conference Championships run next Wednesday through Saturday at Stewart Stadium.
