Tech’s Sullivan one shot out of lead

Montana Tech golfer Dublin Sullivan is one shot out of the lead at the Montana Tech Invitational golf tournament.

Sullivan shot a 73 and a 69 on the par-70 Butte Country Club Monday for a 2-over 142. Lewis-Clark State College golfer Chris Lien shot 71-70 to take the lead at 141 heading into Tuesday’s final 18 holes.

Daniel Thompson of Rocky Mountain College is two back at 143, while Tech’s Sean Ryan, who shot 71-74, is four back at 145.

Of the teams that fielded a full five-man team, Westminster College is running away with the lead at 521. Lewis-Clark State is next at 583, followed by Carroll at 599.

Montana Tech shot a 616. Carson Brown shot a second-round 74 for a 156 for the Orediggers, while Butte’s David Starcevich, who hit a first-round 76, shot a 158.

Also for Tech, Lee Paulson sits at 161, while Alec Shull shot 163.

Sullivan is playing as an individual, meaning his scores don’t count on the Oredigger team score. Orediggers Troy Wolf (169) and Chris Robbins (177) are also playing as individuals.

Colin Gunstream shot 75-71 to lead Carroll at 146. Teammate Chase Dakalous shot 77-73 for 150.

On the women’s side, Mari Husti of Westminster shot a 71 to take a commanding lead heading into Tuesday’s final round. The women’s tournament is a 36-hole event.

Kyla Clancy of Rocky Mountain is second at 79.

Montana Tech’s Danielle McCully buries a putt on No. 3.

Taryn Campbell shot an 82 to lead the Orediggers, who only have three golfers competing. Kiley McConnell shot an 84, while Danielle McCully hit 92.

Jackie Mee shot an 83 to lead the Saints. Teammate Kate Goins hit 85. Westminster and Lewis-Clark State are tied atop the team standings at 332.

The tournament continues at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
